From the Head of School

Greetings!

Blake is an extraordinary school. We have been bringing inquisitive students and expert teachers together in our classrooms, on our fields and in our studios with impressive results for more than 100 years. In full partnership and collaboration with parents, we work to foster in each individual child a love of learning, a strong sense of self and responsibility to others.

Blake’s three distinct campuses allow us to create intimate learning communities in which every student is well known by the adults. And yet with more than 1,370 students and 350 staff we are large enough to provide a full breadth of academic, athletic, artistic and social opportunities.

Committed to attracting and retaining the best faculty possible, informed by our belief in the importance of character in our work with young people, thoughtful in the design of a dynamic course of study from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade, resolute in our efforts to create a pluralistic community, and fortunate in having magnificent facilities – Blake is a very special place.

After a child’s immediate family, school can be the single greatest influence in helping shape a young life. Especially for those who begin with us in pre-kindergarten and stay for 14 years, Blake has the opportunity to help a child swim against the current of popular culture and to help pass along to this next generation of Blake students what the British critic Matthew Arnold held was a lasting culture — “to know the best that has been said and thought in the world.Head of School, John C.
